    Jason Nolan's site is a treasure trove for those in search of the latest and most eye-catching free fonts on the Web. Here, you'll find a strong collection of freeware fonts and dingbats. All the fonts featured here are listed with the creators' permission, so you won't find any fonts of dubious origin. Unlike many font collections on the Web, here you'll find links to the sites where each font originated.


  •  FontFace.com 
    This is an essential site for anyone in search of the latest and greatest free fonts on the Web. Often imitated, but never equaled, this pioneering site is home of the original "Font of the Day," which shows you, at a glance, what the Web's hottest new fonts are. FontFace.com has over 800 fonts and each font can be previewed via a nifty JavaScript "FontFirst" feature. (Note: fonts are available here for both Windows and Macs).


  •  Font Search Engine 
    Looking for a specific font? This useful site offers over 10,000 free fonts and features a search engine, so you can quickly find what you need. Font Search Engine also includes a database of free font archives, font utilities and a roundup of free font designers.


  •  Fontasy.de 
    Tilman Schalmey's fast-growing resource serves up over 1,600 free fonts, arranged alphabetically. The site offers a solid selection of fonts that we haven't seen elsewhere. Fontasy.de is offered in both the English and German languages.


  •  Fontsville.com 
    This site offers over 10,000 free TrueType fonts, sorted alphabetically, and is refreshingly free of the popup ads that plague many font sites. Fontsville.com offers a "custom preview" option that helps you determine which fonts suit your needs.


  •  Acid Fonts 
    At this well-organized site, you'll find over 4,000 freeware fonts and dingbats, for Windows and Macs. There is also a good selection of font utilities, as well as a helpful "frequently asked questions" section.


  •  FontFiles.com 
    An extensive free fonts resource with over 1,000 selections that is well-designed and easy to navigate. FontFiles.com offers a preview of each font and all selections are compressed for quicker downloads. There's also helpful info here on how to download, install and manage fonts.


  •  TypeNow.net 
    An extensive resource, TypeNow.net serves up over 5,000 free fonts and dingbats for both Windows and Macs. There are also fonts here from non-Western languages, including Japanese, Indian, Russian and Arabic, as well as a handy glossary and FAQ.


  •  High Fonts 
    A well-designed free fonts site that offers over 1,000 selections. Fonts are organized alphabetically and you may preview each selection before downloading it. The site also offers a roundup of programs that let you create your own fonts.


  •  SearchFonts.com 
    A solid, uncluttered free fonts resource, this site features an excellent search engine to help you find the font style you're looking for, quickly.


  •  007Fonts & Logos 
    Here, you'll find a solid, alphabetized roundup of several hundred fonts. Not all of the fonts here are free (some are shareware, but they're clearly marked as such). There's a nifty free instant logo generator here that lets you create custom images, using any font.


  •  EKNP.com 
    This site offers a good roundup of free fonts, sorted alphabetically. There are also categories here that include fonts in various styles, including 3D, alien, computer, decorative, futuristic, handwriting, horror, retro, and more.


  •  Font Freak 
    A nicely designed, constantly updated resource, Font Freak offers thousands of free fonts for both Windows and Macs, both original and otherwise, organized alphabetically. You can preview each selection and, if you like it, download a ZIP compressed version. There's also a good selection of free dingbats.


  •  Mouser Fonts 
    This site offers a nice variety of more than 1,700 fonts, most of which are freeware (and are clearly marked as such). Each font here is displayed with the permission of the designer and you can preview each font before downloading it.


  •  Free Typewriter Fonts 
    This unique site specializes in free typewriter-themed fonts, a retro style that is increasingly popular among designers. There are over 70 font styles available here, including selections for both Windows and Macs.
     
  •  Blue Vinyl Free Fonts 
    This elegantly designed, well-organized free fonts site manages to do everything right. There's a broad selection of TrueType fonts, listed by category and you can preview each font before downloading a fast-loading ZIP version. Blue Vinyl also offers a helpful mailing list to keep you on top of what's happening in the world of fonts. Categories here include Deco Cafe, Rock Star, Gothic, Modular 2000, Cyber Phonic, Grrlz Stuff, Retrobats, etc.


  •  Fonts For Flash 
    This site offers a small selection of free, original pixel fonts, suitable for use in Macromedia Flash. To access the free fonts, click the "Freebies" link on the left side of the page.


  •  iqAuto.com 
    Here's a free online 3D text generator that lets you easily create cool, custom graphics. Just type in the text you want and specify the options, which range from font texture to depth of text and within minutes, you'll be able to view your graphic.


  •  FontLoader 
    This nifty freeware utility makes it easy to work with fonts on your computer. FontLoader offers a shell context menu extension that lets you load and install fonts by right-clicking on a font file or a folder containing fonts. Note: FontLoader does not support PostScript fonts, it works with TrueType fonts only. (For Windows).


  •  Divide By Zero 
    A welcome addition to the Web's free font resources, Divide By Zero serves up a eye-catching collection of original TrueType fonts. They're free to use, but may not be resold (as part of a collection on CD, for example). Webmaster Tom Murphy doesn't beat around the bush on this site; he gets straight to the fonts on the main page. Each font is annotated with interesting commentary about its creation and suggestions for use. For those in a hurry, you can get all the fonts in a convenient ZIP file.


  •  Windows 95 Font Smoother 
    A handy, free utility that previously was available only with the commercial Microsoft Plus! package. This program makes text easier to read and more pleasant to look at. Note: This utility will only work on machines capable of, and set to, 16bit (HiColor) color display modes or higher. (Note: this program is not needed with Windows 98--which has this feature already built in).


  •  Font Mania 
    This nicely-designed resource offers over 400 free Windows TrueType fonts, conveniently organized. There's a "Top 10" listing and an archive of past favorites. A good collection, with many fonts that we've not seen elsewhere. This site offers a message board for you to place requests on. There are also helpful tips and tricks on using fonts.


  •  FontLister 
    If you have a bunch of fonts scattered across your hard drive, then you need this free essential utility. FontLister allows you to quickly view, browse, print, and work with your fonts. FontLister's latest version is shareware, but you can still get Version 2, which is freeware. (For Windows).

  •  All Free ISP 
    In the aftermath of the Dot Com crash, most national free Internet access providers went bust. However, there are still many free local ISPs around in the U.S. and Canada. This site offers a searchable database of free ISPs, complete with reviews and ratings. Besides free services, the site also takes a look at discount ISPs.


  •  NetZero 
    NetZero offers you free Net access in exchange for displaying ad space in your browser. They support 56K FLEX and V90 modem standards. They provide local access numbers to most major and many medium-sized cities in the U.S. Note: to sign up for service here, scroll down the page and look for the "Free Internet Access" link. U.S. only. (For Windows). A Mac version is promised eventually.


  •  NetValve 
    Sign up here for one hour of prepaid free Internet access from NetValve, a Net service provider that offers access in over 7,000 U.S. cities. This offer is valid for first-time NetValve users who live in the 48 contiguous United States.


  •  Free AOL access offer 
    America Online is offering 45 free days of Internet access with its new AOL version 9.0 software. No credit card is required for this offer. Note: you must be 18 or older to request this offer. (U.S. only).


  •  Marketscore Internet Accelerator 
    Looking for a faster Net connection? This unique service promises to speed up your dial-up connection speed by up to 100 percent. To get the speedier connection, you must download a small instruction set to identify your machine and give your browser a Net address through which to route its traffic.


  •  Aardvaak free Net access 
    Here's a free ISP for our British visitors. Aardvaak offers speedy 0845 (local rate) dial-up Internet access, with free POP3 E-mail and 25 megs of Web space. The service supports 56K and 64/128K ISDN. What's more, Aardvaak doesn't pester you with banners or popup ads. (U.K. only). Works with both Windows and Macs.


  •  FreeSpot Directory 
    This handy directory serves up an up-to-date roundup of Wi-Fi hotspot locations that offer free wireless Internet access. Most of the listings here are in the U.S., but there are also listings for locations in Canada, Europe, Asia and elsewhere.


  •  Address.com 
    This free service forgoes the usual desktop ad bars that you see with most free Net access providers in favor of occasional commercial breaks, which last around seven seconds. The ads appear as either full screen messages or as pop-up windows. Address.com is available in the continental U.S. only. (For Windows).


  •  dotNow 
    dotNow offers Net dial-up access to customers in hundreds of U.S. cities. Currently, they have over 2,400 points of presence (POPs) in all 50 states. The service is banner ad-supported and the company's dotNow bar displays ads while you're online. (Available for Windows only).


  •  BlueLight.com 
    (Note: In July, 2001, BlueLight.com announced that it will no longer provide free Net access). This major ad-supported free Net access provider, offered by retail giant Kmart, is in a state of transition (in December 2000, the company that powered BlueLight.com ceased operations). (For Windows; a previously-offered Mac version is no longer supported).

    This directory offers a good roundup of free "0845" (local call rate) Net access providers in Britain, including reviews and a comparison table. (U.K. only).


  •  FreeAccess 
    (Netherlands only). This one's for our Dutch visitors. This service offers Dutch users free Net access, with speedy 56K and ISDN connections. You only need to pay for the cost of the phone call (and local call rate access is available in almost half of the Netherlands).

    This is a free online dating service that has lots of features to help you in your quest for romance. Bookofmatches offers profile comparisons, search capabilities, instant messaging, online status and much more.


  •  Olive You 
    Unlike the vast majority of dating sites out there, Olive You lets you post, search and reply to personal ads for free. The site's search engine is quite useful and lets you search by many factors: distance, area code, photos, interests, IQ, biorhythm, or MBTI personality type. Ads are moderated as well; here, you won't find bogus or obscene ads.

    Are you worried about getting a virus in your E-mail? This free program aims to help you to protect your computer from receiving virus infected E-mails. When an incoming E-mail or file is suspected to be containing a virus, VCatch automatically deletes it and notifies you. (For Windows).


  •  AntiVir Personal Edition 
    This easy-to-use freeware antivirus utility detects over 70,000 viruses and includes a resident monitor and desktop program. Scans for DOS, Windows, macros and Java viruses. Available in German and English. (For Windows).

These days, even if you've installed firewall and anti-virus programs on your PC, you're still not safe from all the dangers that lurk in cyberspace.     This unique free program offers an easy way for you to set up peer-to-peer connections between computers on the Net.     Here's a very useful, feature-packed freeware dial-up enhancement utility for Windows.   •  Intercent 
    Here's a helpful free utility from the Netherlands that makes it easy to keep track of the time you spend online.   •  EasyMTU 
    (Note: this site is occasionally inaccessible). Here's a handy freeware utility that speeds up your Net connection by tweaking your TCP/IP (Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol) settings. (For Windows).


  •  NetMonitor 
    How fast is your connection to the Net? An outstanding freeware utility, NetMonitor features loads of data and vital statistics to give you a better picture of what's happening with your Web connection. NetMonitor also offers a handy option to instantly synchronize your PC's clock to the Internet Atomic Clock. (For Windows).


  •  Keep It Alive 
    Does your Net service provider bump you offline if you haven't been actively browsing for 10 minutes or so? Then you'll love this freeware utility, which keeps your dial-up connection alive. (For Windows). Works with AOL.


  •  Lemondialer 
    (Note: this site is temporarily unavailable). This is a free dialer utility that offers an excellent way to connect to the Net.
